During your stay at Holiday Inn Express & Suites San Diego - Mission Valley, an IHG Hotel, you'll only be a quick five-minute drive away from Hotel Circle and Fashion Valley Mall. This property was clean, safe, and the staff provided excellent service. I also enjoyed the complimentary breakfast that they provide. 

The only thing that I was disappointed about was the parking. If you leave and come back late, you might have a difficult time finding parking close to the property. But overall it is a great place to stay!

While I commend the hotel for their cleanliness practices/ if you are sensitive to smells , DO NOT STAY HERE.  The cleaner they use is VERY STRONG and can give you a headache and make you feel sick. Family stayed to attend a graduation and had several rooms- they all smelled, so no way of switching.  Had to leave early.  Have stayed at lots of hotels and while all are diligent about cleaning practices - none use highly chemical/toxic smelling cleaners.  Beware if you have allergy sensitivities.

Was pretty upsetting I wasn't warned about the room above me AND next to me would be getting construction work done. I am a day sleeper due to my work schedule so the audio assault at 8am until I checked out was pretty infuriating considering the cost of the room.

Sofa bed mattress is really thin, they tried to help with extra blankets, other than that all good, we had good time

Unfortunately I have to give a bad review, because of two incidents that are really out of the hotel's control, but they nonetheless very negatively affected our stay.

1)  The fire alarm went off at 1am. No all-clear was given over the PA system. 
2)  There was NO WATER AT ALL from about 6am for at least an hour (we checked out at 7). The staff were aware of the problem but there was nothing they could do about it, no water for coffee, showers, toilet-flushing, breakfast, etc. A disaster.

But otherwise the hotel is great modern, clean, breakfast would have been good, bed very comfortable, etc. Staff great, no complaints other than the above. 

I was very impressed with the hotel. Everything was clean and the staff was very friendly.

Did not like: shower was dirty when I entered the room, hallway leading up to the rooms werent vacuumed, paying extra for parking after booking a room is kind of crazy considering theres no street parking where the hotel is located 

Good location for the trolley. Property and rooms needed to be cleaned a bit better. Breakfast/pool area is unique, but tables were dirty. 

The hotel is tucked away; however, it's tranquil and clean. Check-in was easy and pleasant. 

Room was okay but for a $200 dlls a night room I would expect much much more. The breakfast is a joke. Better go to a $100-$130 a night hotel and you will find a much better room, much better service, and MUCH better breakfast. Seriously, do not stay here. 

The room we were booked for had a broken AC. It was unbearable to sleep or even breathe in there. Because we did not book through them, but through hotels.com, we were not able to get a refund. the manager kindly gave us  a smaller room, but the price was not discounted, because we booked through 3rd party. The kids had to sleep horizontally to the bed in order to fit. It was a cramped night. the hotel staff did do their best to accomodate us, but it was an uncomfortable night. It was not the room we paid for. 

Pool and hot tub were great.  Parking charge of $24 per night is ridiculous.

Very clean, Comfortable room, basic but delicious breakfast and options change every day.
They offer coffee, tea and chocolate all day. There is a swimming pool with warm water. They have a terrace with a fireplace. Very helpful staff, thanks Chris and Angelica

Room was clean and ready for us after a long day. It’s close to sea world, little Italy and old town San Diego. Lots of dinning and shopping nearby. The breakfast was great they had lots of options. I would stay here again. 

I had to pay for parking. This used to be free. Not happy about this.

Centrally located and close to San Diego’s major attractions 

Stayed one night with family of 5. Great experience overall. Room and facility were clean. Staff was prompt and courteous. Parking was easy but I can imagine on a busy night it might be challenging. The breakfast provided a ton of options which is great but the "cooked" food (eggs, sausage, potatoes) left something to be desired.

Staff was courteous & friendly. The area was good & lots of restaurants near by. Our location was central to everywhere. Parking fee if $24. A day was a bit much, they could’ve mentioned it on their website. Free breakfast was pretty good. Thank you 

Beautiful location, room was comfy and bathroom was nice to match.  Open lobby concept and heated pool.  Definitely would love to come back.

The entry driveway is confussing by the hotel located in front of the Holiday Inn

 did not stay in the hotel and they stole the money for two rooms and they did not return the money. It is a fraud with the Expeda company for online reservations. I went to the hotel and they told me that we did not return the money. I spoke to the hotel’s information office as if they were witnesses to it. I did not stay in the hotel. They cheated on it and the amount was withdrawn. 313. This is unfair.

Originally booked 4 nights only stayed 2 and switched hotels because beds where very uncomfortable and the sink was backed up and smelt so bad we couldn't brush our teeth. The room and general areas felt clean for the most part 

The hotel room was spacious, the service and staff were great, check in and check out was very easy, and the location was very convenient. Overall, we had an excellent experience. 

I was in town for a business meeting but took my husband and 2 kids (ages 3 and 6) they had free breakfast secure parking and a nice relaxing atmosphere outside and a big connect four. Coffee and tea all day in the lobby and in your room. The front desk was amazing and so was maintenance.  We enjoyed our stay and it was a good price. Will stay again! 

Nice hotel with friendly staff. I like the the fact that they have breakfast.

Customer service was great! They even gave me a free upgrade.

It was a very nice hotel. Very clean and modern inside. I wish there was a way to separate the bed area from the sitting area. The breakfast each morning was good! Good location. Only a mile or so from a busy shopping qnd dining area.

Property was decent, nothing special or over the top. A little noisy for our liking. Always looks better in pictures than in real life. The room was ok and clean. The shower was not very well cleaned and there was hair in it... 
I've asked for a room that was facing the back of the property (the mountain) they gave me a room right by the elevators; I went back and asked for a better room - they gave me one facing the side and right next to the mechanical room. We decided to accept it. 
A little after check in we were trying to unwind and relax - when we started getting a lot of noise steps/running from door to window and back to door from the room above us.
We waited for a while, we realized it was probably some children. After a while it was just not stopping I decided to call the front desk - they advised they'll take care of it. waited and waited and it got worse and worse. It sounded like adults were doing the same noise but louder and probably on purpose and out of spite... 
I was gonna call front desk again but my wife stopped me and we decided to let it go and just wait and hope they'll stop. After 45 min to an hour we finally had peace and quiet. 
Breakfast was a bit weak as well. 


Overall had a decent stay, we got stuck with a noisy room sounded like they were running and non stop stomping above us. I complained but they didn’t seem to care. Room was really clean and nice. The restroom had a vanity like mirror with adjustable lighting. Parking was good too didn’t have any issues.
Just wish I got a quieter room. 

Large inviting lobby with open access to the pool area and seating options for visiting or accomplishing work.  
Room was clean, and did not feel crowded even though had sleeper sofa area and two queen beds.

Clean and nice. Great outside seating areas. Easy freeway access 

The driveway to the property was narrow and not easily visible upon arrival (at night). Although the property was relatively clean, the room was lacking and the mattress was atrocious. Complimentary breakfast was nothing special. Parking was very tight.  Property needs a little updating, but hotel staff was very pleasant.  Was not worth the rate charged.

Great location and very nice and clean place to stay when visiting San Diego for a family vacation. Close to zoo and old town. Less crowded area with everything near by.

The staff has terrible attitude. Customer service pretty bad. They knocked on our door five times during check in. They were kicking us out at exactly 11 am. The manager even showed up with a nasty attitude. Will definitely not come back

Very comfortable and good breakfast.
Would definitely stay here again.
